New iPhone May Be 3G and OLED, Says Gartner

justart97/iphone.jpgWireless and Mobile News just received a phone call from Bob Hafner, Managing VP at Gartner, regarding Gartner’s speculations on the new iPhone.

“Gartner speculates that the new iPhone will have 3G,” said Hafner, “Steve Jobs has hinted at the possibility previously.” It would be a natural progression for Apple’s leading edge trendsetting, notes Hafner.

Apple’s early adoption style, leads Gartner to also predict that the new iPhone will have an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display which would reduce power consumption, weight, and thickness of the phone. If or when China manufacturers get orders for the new iPhones, Gartner expects an order of 10 million units would be a reasonable number.

Gartner doesn’t know whether Apple has actually ordered 10 million 3G iPhones, which was previously blogged and reported on the Web.

Hafner gave an interview to correct the misinterpretations to Information Week moments before he spoke to us.
