Sony Ericsson to Make Android Smartphone

Sony Ericsson today announced it will support the Open Handset Alliance. The alliance is responsible for open standards for Android phones.

Rikko Sakaguchi, CVP and head of Creation and Development at Sony Ericsson confirmed their intention to develop a handset based on Android.

He also said "Sony Ericsson is a strong supporter of open operating systems and we believe the Open Handset Alliance offers an exciting opportunity for a new and unique user experience only Sony Ericsson can deliver."

The news release stated "membership of the Open Handset Alliance will complement the company's existing Open OS strategy which is based on the Symbian and Windows Mobile platforms."

Maybe Android is a way to eliminate he problems the Sony Ericssion Xperia X1 is experiencing.
