The OS 5.0.0.140 update version was discovered on a Chinese website. BlackBerry Storm owners should be warned that you may void your warranty by using the unauthorized update.
The update supposedly is faster, has a battery meter, new screen transitions, browser tabs, recent activity log, There have been reports that the not all current BlackBerry software with work with this updated operating system. The update has problems with IM, social networking sites, Weatherbug, Vlingo and backwards screen orientation. Other reported problems include the history in the browser does not work, alarm does not work properly, and BlackBerry App World doesn't work.
Some forum members reported that they were able to get the OS 5.0.0.140 to work on their BlackBerry Storms while this post sums it up nicely, "I was totally psyched to try this out but after browsing through hundreds of horror stories, I'm gonna sit this one out. "
It appears that this release was pirated from somewhere without testing, so some brave (or poor) BlackBerry Storm buccaneers, gave it try out and then were forced to abandon ship. This "stormy" update could be called a tropical storm or a full-blow hurricane of mishaps.
CrackBerry fourms released the update and CrackBerry issues many warnings if you try it yourself at home, " If you choose to install, do so at your own risk
and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and
downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating
system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled
while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that."
Once you call any support they will advise you to downgrade to an existing approved operating system. Each time CrackBerry leaks an update the warning gets longer and longer.
So what's a BlackBerry Storm owner to do? You will have to decide for yourself. It depends on many factors including your ability, and how much time you want tospend waste.
