Pre-CTIA I.T. and Entertainment Round-Up Update
The wireless industry likes to make announcements either on the days of trade shows or a few days before. This week kicks off some major stories for the wireless world, preceding the CTIA-The Wireless Association's "International CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainmnet 2009 in San Diego." The Android Avalanche continues with many of the announcement supporting the Android operation system and/or apps. Here is our updated round-up of announcements as of this morning:
- Bitstream announced that their super-fast mobile BOLT browser is out of Beta and ready for downloading to millions of phones of all types including BlackBerry and J2ME.
- There will be an Adobe Flash Player coming for mobile devices.
- Motorola is embracing the Android OS with their CLIQ and supporting app development with app partners.
- Verizon and Google are partnering for Android devices and apps. They will support Google Voice and the phone used at the press conference sure looks like an HTC Hero.
- Microsoft will back 30 phones with their new Windows Mobile 6.5 and also offer free back-up sycro service My Phone.
- Best Buy Mobile will help customers back-up and sync their smartphones with miQ.
- Research shows services and apps are very important to mobile phone purchase decisions.
- There is a new SDK forc BlackBerry Widgeting.
- The Palm Pre webOS app store is open for business.
- AT&T announced two Windows Phones, the HTC Pure and the HTC Tilt 2. Texting phones on the way to costumers hand in time for the holidays: Pantech Reveal, Pantech Impact, Samsung Mythic and Samsung Flight.
- AT&T will be suppling customers with an Opera-based browser.
- T-Mobile announced the Android Samsung Behold II with an AMOLED display.
- The CTIA Fund Fest Finalists were announced.
