Verizon's deal with Microsoft and Bing is taking hold. Many
BlackBerry browsers users have notice the default browse search is pointing to Bing. Forums have reported Verizon is replacing other search options of the
BlackBerry browser such as Google and Wikipedia.
"We're a proud supporter of Microsoft's Bing search engine," responded
Verizon Wireless spokesman Jeffrey Nelson "On select smartphones (Storm2 the most prominent), we've
changed the VZW-supplied web menu to make Bing the default search
engine."
This Bing is supposed to optimized for touchscreens.
If you are upset with the decision, you can set a search favorite:
- Type in the URL of the search engine you prefer, mark it
as a "favorite" and *SNAP* you're done.
- Nelson also suggested that other search options, including those from Google, are available through
RIM's BlackBerry App World storefront.
The native BlackBerry browser has been called "out of date" and "not up to speed"with other smartphone browsers. A much faster browser for
BlackBerry Storm,
BlackBerry Curve, BlackBerry Tour,
BlackBerry Bold is the
BOLT browser. BOLT gives PC rendering with shortcuts and other time-saving options.
