Review of News: iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S II vs Droid Bionic vs Nexus Prime vs BlackBerry vs Nokia Windows Phone vs LG Thrill

iphone5vsothers.JPGDuring the dog/shark days of summer, many bloggers are speculating what will be happening in the fall and what will be the top best smartphones this fall.

Will the best smartphone be the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S II, Droid Bionic, new BlackBerry Bold/Torch, LG Thrill or Nokia Windows Phone?

There are rumors on just about everything concerning the next generation of smartphones. Let's review the rumors and see what's going on.

First the rumors circulate around release dates  On Friday, it was speculated that Apple would announce the new iPhone 5 on September 7 at an iPod event that is refuted by several sources  In general, rumors suggest a mid-September to  October release date for the next series of iPhone 5, iPhone4S and possibly an iPad 3.

Then we have a rumors about the release dates for the  Samsung Galaxy S II smartphones
(8/ 29 announcement) and the over-delayed Droid Bionic which could be released as early as September 8.  Today, we found out that BlackBerry Bold Touch could be coming from Verizon this week.  While the Sprint BlackBerry Bold and Torch will be released on August 21.

Releasing the new BlackBerry OS 7 models in August may work well for Sprint because they will be the newest smartphones and be ready for back to school and can be used for catchy promotions like being called "Back to Cool."

August is a dead month, except for sharks.  People are vacation.  Students are getting ready to go back to school.  People really don't have major pressing needs to get the latest and greatest smartphone on the planet.  However , there is something about human curiosity and intermittent reinforcement that drives desire when there is only a smattering of information about a product and it is held under a secret exclusive wrapper.
Many customers are no longer buying smartphones for functionality but as a status symbol and a way of life.

The latest iPhone rumor frenzy have gotten so bad editors are forcing authors to write about iPhone rumors and create slideshows about them.
One analyst wrote that there is no possible way for iPhone 5 to have 4G
LTE access because of battery drain and the weight needed to produce
such  power.  The desire for information is so great that bloggers and
editors will publish just about anything without fact-checking.

When we tried to compare searches for all the top smarpthone models, the only way we could brands other than iPhone to come close was to remove the model number (click on chart) then BlackBerry in general came close to iPhone 5 while the Samsung Galaxy came in third.  BlackBerry did rate higher for news trends.

Coming from behind is the new Nokia Windows Phone 7 where  two powerful
companies are rumored to reduce prices so low that they will outsell Android
competitors.

There has also been a lot of buzz about the next Nexus the Nexus Prime
which will be the first smartphone with Android Ice Cream Sandwich.  What makes it desirable is the pure Google experience and fast update of the Android OS.

A month ago, we published a commentary on what delayed release dates
really mean
and discovered that consumer desires were outpacing the
technology and the software needed to give them what they wanted.

But probably the most enticing of all have been the smartphones from
Verizon that promise 4G LTE access almost all of which have been
delayed.  If or when Verizon releases a 4G LTE  smartphone that also has
a dual-core processor it will have the top features of the network.

So this week, photos appeared of the Droid Bionic showing a laptop dock and the features that we been suspecting for a while.  While the Samsung Stratosphere rumors went into the stratosphere because it may be a dual-core Samsung Galaxy S II-featured smartphone with a dual-core processor and 4G LTE access.

The latest addition to new features is the ability to view and capture 3D media., the next dual-core smartphone to offer those features is the LG Thrill 4G which is delayed until August 21.

Consumers will have more choices and features than ever before.  So what is the best smartphone for the fall? We suggest you forget about the rumors and determine what you really need.
