Watch out iPhone - Samsung is gaining traction and popularity over the iconic Apple-branded smartphone. Samsung notified the media of the BrandIndex’s buzz score for Samsung. After the release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexyus, tomorrow, we suspect the brand will get even more buzz.
According to BrandIndex, Samsung has topped the iPhone in consumer perception (adults 18+). Samsung’s score rose from 19 to 26 in a fews weeks. YouGov attributes the recent surge to Samsung’s new “The Next Big Thing” Galaxy S II ad campaign that began airing in November.
We've also noticed that iPhone is not making it in all the top ten lists we have been reviewing in our annual top ten best list of best coolest smartphones this year. It may the first year that Apple or Droid doesn't top the list. The number one contender is the Samsung Galaxy SII, thus far.
The downward and upward perception movement of the iPhone and Samsung respectively is driven mostly by adults 50+.
Samsung and iPhone were measured with YouGov BrandIndex’s Buzz score, which is gleamed from asking respondents: "If you've heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?"
YouGov BrandIndex measurement scores range from 100 to -100 and are compiled by subtracting negative feedback from positive. A zero score means equal positive and negative feedback.
The iPhone’s buzz score began sinking around November 28, with a buzz score of 33 – the current score is 25.
Samsung's buzz score was 19 compared to the iPhone’s 29 on October 3rd, is now at 26.
