Samsung Galaxy Nexus Update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Out

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean JB

The rollout of Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, has started with Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ devices which means the unlocked versions not Verizon Wireless and Sprint models of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

New features of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean include voice actions, expanded notifications, larger Android Beam files, resizable widgets, tablets look more like Android smartphones and a better keyboard.

The only new product to ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is the Nexus 7 which is shipping today for preorderers while those who preordered at GameStop were able to pick them up today, causing some customers who paid for shipping to be disgruntled.

Google + members have noted that you can force the update:

Got my update yesterday. For those still waiting, here is a little tip to get you going faster (worked for me):

  • Go to Settings > App > All.
  • Then go to App Google Services Framework.
  • Clear data.
  • Restart phone

Android Developers published a full changelog here are some highlights:

Jelly Bean features improved performance throughout the system, including faster orientation changes, faster responses when switching between recent apps, and smoother and more consistent rendering across the system through vsync and triple buffering. j

  • Jelly Bean has more reactive and uniform touch responses, and makes your device even more responsive by boosting your device's CPU instantly when you touch the screen, and turns it down when you don't need it to improve battery life.
  • Accessibility features include gesture mode for blind users, text traversal, talkback and support for braile services.
  • Android Beam supports larger photos/videos and instant pairing of Bluetooth headsets & speakers.
  • Voice Actions – new revamped and takes dictation offline.  All you have to do is say Google or press the mic to activate.
  • Resizable Widgets – widgets can be sized for easier viewing.
  • Tablet Looks More Phoney – 7 inch tablets will look more the phone version and 10? tablets will retain the tablet look in a landscape homescreen.
  • Better Keyboard - Android’s dictionaries are now more accurate, more relevant. The language model in Jelly Bean adapts over time, and the keyboard even guesses what the next word will be before you’ve started typing it.
  • Browser - better performance, HTML 5 support and WebView now supports vertical text, including Ruby Text and other vertical text glyphs.
  • Calendar is more buttery. Content fades in, animations are sprinkled throughout, and swiping/paging between days is smoother.
  • Camera improvement include pinch-to-zoom in gallery and animations.
  • Data Usages lets you dismiss data warnings without changing the threshold and auto Wi-Fi hotspot detection.
  • Face Unlock is faster and more accurate.

  1. If the OTA hasn't been pushed yet, you can force your G-Nex HSPA+ to manually retrieve the 140MB+ file.

Perform a factory Reset. after the reboot, skip the Google account sign-in prompt. connect the device to a WLAN. access the device settings panel and manually check for system updates. Jelly Bean v4.1.1 should appear for download.

ICS was a HUGE improvement (puts gingerbread to shame), but Jelly Bean raises the bar waaaay up. it's that good.

  2. Having read this I thought it was rather enlightening.
I appreciate you spending some time and energy to put this
informative article together. I once again find myself personally
spending way too much time both reading and posting comments.
But so what, it was still worth it!

  3. Woah! I'm really digging the template/theme of this site. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's tough to get that "perfect balance" between superb usability and visual appearance. I must say you've done a great job with this. In addition, the blog loads extremely quick for me on Safari. Outstanding Blog!
