Verizon Wireless Helped Those with Droid RAZR/Incredibles & More with 4G LTE

Verizon Colorado FireVerizon Wireless released a video showing how the network was prepared for the massive fire in Colorado in June.

Verizon Wireless sent out temporary cell towers or COLTs to ensure that firefighters to be able to call their loved ones and others. Verizon reinforced its 4G LTE network.  The Verizon network was running and working 100% of the time during the fires.

Verizon awarded over $20,000 in grants to American Red Cross to support relief efforts. Verizon offered an emergency response vehicle with computers, phones, chargers, replacement phones and ways for customers to stay connected.  Some customers with burned homes forwarded landline calls to their wireless phones.

Verizon Wireless sent its Crisis Response Team (VCRT) to respond to a request from local authorities for additional cell phones and to boost wireless coverage for hundreds of emergency personnel battling the High Park wildfire west of Ft. Collins.

Verizon offered customers the ability to use their mobile phones to make $10 donations to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to support evacuees and others impacted by the fires by:

  • General disaster tips for cell phone use, charging, data backup and more.
  •  We also suggest you bookmark in your browser resources for your area.  Some suggested sites to bookmark are  the National Weather Service (http://mobile.weather.gov), Center for Disease Control (http://m.cdc.gov), and FEMA (http://m.fema.gov).
  • Keep an extra charged battery around and program often called numbers into your cell phone.
  • Make sure you have a backup of your important person data on a portable hard drive or USB drive.

If a natural disaster escalates to a point where you have to be evacuated for any reason, contact your carrier.  They often offer free voicemail and landline call forwarding during a disaster, as they did with the fires in Southern California.

In general, you  may want to contact your carrier to find out if they have evacuation centers or mobile stores where you can charge your cell phone or call family.
