iPhone an' iTunes Kills Winamp & Winamp Android RIP

winampAOL announced that it will kill Winamp music playing software on December 20. There are also reports from insiders who reported that AOL is in negotiations with Microsoft to buy the app and the Shoutcast media streaming service.

Winamp is currently used by millions of people worldwide tand generates about $6 million in revenue for AOL annually. If you download it now, you can still use the program after it is shut down.

Winamp for Android offered wireless sync and the ability to move your iTunes library to Android.

There’s a petition for AOL make the software open-source, allowing development to continue. But as Winamp creator Justin Frankel noted on Reddit, there are copyright issues for making the app open source.

It is not clear what will happen with SHOUTcast radio and the iPhone app. Here is what Winamp posted

"Winamp.com and associated Web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date. See release notes for latest improvements to this last release. Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years"

Various companies has declined to comment about the closure of Winamp.  Most users are outside the United States.
