iPhone CarPlay Review of News: Hyundai Google Glass (?), Pioneer, Alpine, Volvo & un-Safe Play

CarPlayoniphoneThere have been many announcements regarding CarPlay in after market head unit infotainment systems and future 2015 vehicles. Alpine, Pioneer, Hyundai, Volvo and safety experts have all joined the CarPlay cavalcade.

Alpine Electronics, claims that they will be the first aftermarket audio system manufacturer to deploy CarPlay this summer.

The next day, Pioneer Electronics announced that its NEX 2014 entertainment systems will be updated this summer to be able to be used with CarPlay. The systems currently run AppRadio. However, after the update, as soon as an iPhone 5S/5c/5 with a lightning connector is connected to a NEX systme, CarPlay will launch.  The CarPlay system runs on the iPhone itself.

At the New York Auto Show, Hyundai announced  the 2015 Sonata with 8 inch Audio Navigation systems will be able to connect to CarPlay late in 2015.  All Hyundai Sonata cars will come with iPod connections, the new Blue Link software and Bluetooth.  To work with CarPlay, the buyer will have to upgrade to the navigation system.  Hyundai is one of the founding members of the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA)  to deploy Android in vehicles and  announced at CES that the Hyundai Genesis Blue Link system will be compatible with Google Glass.

AT&T announced that it will provide the Single SIM for Volvo connected cars in the U.S. and Canada this summer.  Also at the the New York Auto Show, Volvo showed what CarPlay will look like in its 2016 XC90 and other models.

Apps announced for CarPlay include Beats Music, iHeartRadio, Spotify and Stitcher.

Some safety experts believe that CarPlay is not safe to use while driving.

CarPlay is also coming to BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Nissan, Jaguar, Nissan Mitsubhishi, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota.

If you are an iPhone fan low on cash and want to upgrade lower-priced 8GB iPhone 5c models are now available in Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, Czech Republic, Ireland, Portugal, Austria, Spain, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Switzerland for €50. If you can afford a new Volvo, Mercedes or Ferrari, you probably don't care about the extra €50.

Since CarPlay is currently not available, yet, please do not text and drive.  In fact, police all over the country will be ticketing drivers who are texting while driving.

In many states it is the legal to talk on the phone while driving. April is the biggest month for iPhone and Android damage, loss and theft according to Protect Your Bubble.
