Thumbnail image for AlGore_200w.jpgInternational CTIA WIRELESS 2009 closed on Friday after  keynote address by former Vice President Al Gore, who emphasized that the wireless industry is "one of the great success stories in the American economy." The continued development of wireless infrastructure is a key indicator fueling the communications revolution.

Gore noted that the U.S. has the most competitive wireless industry of any nation in the world, and "because of the competition, we are seeing a continued pulse of investment to expand the capacity of [broadband] networks."

"While the wireless industry comprises a small portion of the global economy, its impact is expanding rapidly," he said. "Now is the time for business to take the lead. We have government leadership committed to this transition now, and we have a country that is aware and ready to make the transition. There is no upper limit to the ways we can exploit wireless spectrum."
Thumbnail image for AlGore_200w.jpgAfter a lot of press and questions wondering why the press was banned from Al Gore's keynote address at CTIA.  CTIA issued the following statement, "Due to a high degree of interest, Al Gore, Nobel Peace Prize winner and 45th Vice President of the United States, has opened his CTIA keynote to the press.

Gore is scheduled to address attendees representing the global wireless industry on Friday, April 3 at 9:30 a.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center. During the hour-long session, he will discuss the relationships between technology, the economy and the environment. The International CTIA WIRELESS 2009 tradeshow and conference takes place April 1-3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

AlGore_200w.jpgCTIA has banned the press from covering Al Gore's speech at 9:30 a.m. on April 3 a CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas.

The ban is at Gore's request. It appears Gore usually bans press from his talks.

The press ban seems impossible to carry out because so many tech-savvy attendees could be Twittering and SMS messaging the whole talk.

Here's what the description on the CTIA website says:

"Photography, recording, webcasting and any other reproduction of Vice President Al Gore's speaking appearance is strictly prohibited. VP Gore's keynote address is closed to the press."
