Jha Named Co-CEO of Moto

Sanjay Jha has been named Co-Chief Executive Officer of Motorola.  Jha left Qualcomm where he most recently ran the company's CDMA division.  Motorola stock rose, because analysts  think it is good move.

Nick Holland Leaves Aite Group for ABI Research: Mobile Content

ABI Research announced the appointment of Nick Holland as Principal Analyst, Mobile Content. Holland is responsible for ABI Research’s Mobile Content Research Service, including analysis focused on mobile video and TV, mobile music, mobile social networking and mobile gaming. He also conducts and supervises research into business models and content service delivery platforms.

Nick’s multiple skill-sets will assist this role: not only is he experienced at relating technical advancements to business opportunities, he has a deep understanding of the mobile content industry and the mobile commerce and payment models that enable it.

Research director Mike Wolf comments, “Nick brings a wealth of industry expertise to our mobile content research, combining a strong background in mobile entertainment and content models with his work in the mobile commerce arena. I believe this strong pedigree, combined with Nick’s infectious enthusiasm for this fast-moving market, will further solidify ABI Research as a leader in covering mobile content markets.”

Prior to joining ABI Research, Nick was a senior analyst at Aite Group, where he produced primary research-driven reports on key issues impacting the intersection of technology, payments and security. He also provided consulting services to card networks, handset vendors and many of the top ten US financial institutions. Earlier, Nick served as senior analyst within the CMT Group of Pyramid Research, and as director of the Emerging Technologies Advisory Service at Mercator Advisory Group.

Motorola & Icahn Agree to Nominations, No Proxies & No Litigation

motorolalogo.jpgMotorola, Inc. and Carl Icahn today announced that they have reached an agreement under which William R. Hambrecht, and Keith Meister, a managing director of the Icahn investment funds and principal executive officer of Icahn Enterprises, will be nominated for election to Motorola’s Board of Directors at the 2008 Annual Meeting of Shareholders and included in the Company’s 2008 proxy statement. In addition, Mr. Meister has been appointed to serve on the Board, effective immediately.

In connection with the nomination of Messrs. Hambrecht and Meister, the Icahn Group, which beneficially owns, in the aggregate 144,562,000 shares of Motorola common stock, representing approximately 6.4% of Motorola’s outstanding shares, has agreed not to solicit proxies in connection with the 2008 Annual Meeting and to vote its shares in support of all of the Board’s director nominees.

As part of the settlement agreement, all pending litigation between Motorola and Carl Icahn will be dismissed. In addition, Motorola has agreed to seek input from Mr. Icahn in connection with significant matters regarding the intended separation of the Mobile Devices business, including the search for a new CEO to head the Mobile Devices business. In addition Messrs. Hambrecht and Meister may communicate with Mr. Icahn, subject to certain confidentiality restrictions, regarding Board activities of Motorola, including with respect to the intended separation of the company into two independent businesses.

Moto CEO Leading Handset Unit

motorolalogo.jpgMotorola’s CEO, Greg Brown assumed direct oversight of the Motorola’s troubled handset division, Friday. He replaces Stu Reed in an effort to speed up the unit’s recovery. Reed will remain at the division ans assist Brown.

AT&T Mobile CEO Sigman Signals Retirement, de la Vega Named Successor

att&tlogo.jpgAT&T Inc. announced that Stan Sigman, president and chief executive officer, AT&T Mobility, will retire after 42 years with the company. Ralph de la Vega, group president-Regional Telecom & Entertainment, was named president and CEO, AT&T Mobility, replacing Sigman, effective immediately. Sigman will assist with the transition through year-end.

“Stan is one of the industry’s most outstanding and accomplished leaders,” says AT&T Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson, noting that Sigman was instrumental in growing the business.

Forgone Conclusion: Sprint CEO Foresee Resigns from Sprint

Sprint Nextel announced today that Gary Forsee is stepping down as the company’s chairman, president and chief executive officer (CEO), effective immediately. A committee of the Sprint Nextel Board of Directors has been formed and is conducting the search for a new CEO.

It has been reported that the company is struggling to compete with its rivals. Sprint Nextel expects to report a net loss of 337,000 monthly subscribers in the recently completed third quarter and revised its full year profit and revenue projection downwards.
