Cricket Buys Hargray, Now in Savanah & Hilton Head

crcketlogo.jpgCricket Communications, Inc.announced that it has signed an agreement with Hargray Communications Group, Inc. to acquire Hargray’s wireless telecommunications business and bring Cricket service to the Savannah, Ga. and Hilton Head, S.C. areas.

Under the agreement, Cricket will acquire Hargray Wireless LLC, including its 15 MHz wireless spectrum license, its wireless network and the majority of its wireless customer base. Hargray’s wireline and wireless bundled customers will remain with Hargray and be able to receive Cricket service under a wholesale arrangement to be entered into between the parties upon the closing of the transaction.

nder terms of the transaction, Cricket will pay Hargray approximately $30 million.

Smith Micro Buys PCTEL's Mobility Group

smithmicrologo.jpgSmith Micro Software, Inc. and PCTEL, Inc., a developer of wireless broadband solutions, announced a definitive asset purchase agreement for Smith Micro Software to acquire PCTEL’s Mobility Solutions Group (“MSG”) for $59.7 million, to be paid at closing of the transaction.

PCTEL’s MSG, with their innovative technologies, has pioneered mobility solutions for cellular and IP wireless networks including advanced support for technologies such as 3G, Wi-Fi, WiMax, VoIP and IMS software for converged mobile handsets. The richly-featured portfolio of products serves wireless carriers, device manufacturers, network solution providers and enterprise customers with a complete range of communication clients for PC and mobile handset platform.

Dobson's Cellular One Stores Go AT&T

att&tlogo.jpgBeginning Sunday, Dec. 9, AT&T transitions Dobson’s Cellular One-branded stores to AT&T throughout former Dobson territory.

AT&T Inc. announced that the first phase of integration will start Sunday by stocking store shelves with AT&T handsets and replacing Dobson’s Cellular One brand with exterior and interior AT&T signage in more than 200 stores in 16 states. In some Alaska markets, including Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau, AT&T will make the iPhone available in select retail outlets and will expand to include additional AT&T products and services in 2008. The rebranding follows AT&T’s acquisition of Dobson Communications Corp. on Nov. 15.

Dobson customers can switch to AT&T plans without activation or upgrade fees. Dobson customers who choose AT&T calling plans will benefit from Rollover Minutes, a feature exclusive to AT&T. Dobson customers who currently have a Mobile to Mobile feature will now be able to use those minutes to reach all of AT&T’s 67.3 million wireless customers.

AT&T Buys Edge Wireless

att&tlogo.jpgAT&T Inc. has announced that AT&T, through an affiliate, has entered into a definitive agreement with Edge Wireless Holding Company to acquire full ownership in Edge Wireless LLC (“Edge Wireless”), a regional wireless company with approximately 172,000 subscribers that operates in several markets in the Pacific Northwest.

Under the terms of the agreement, AT&T, which has held a minority ownership interest since Edge Wireless’ inception in 2000, will acquire the remaining 64.3 percent of the company.

The addition of Edge Wireless’ GSM network will complement AT&T’s existing GSM networks in Northern California, Oregon, Idaho and Wyoming. AT&T customers will enjoy broader in-network coverage in these areas, and Edge Wireless customers will gain access to AT&T’s full portfolio of products and services as well as AT&T’s fully integrated GSM network, which now covers more than 290 million people in 13,000 U.S. cities and towns.
