The Peek Pronto is like a smartphone without the phone and a monthly bill. Well it used to have a monthly fee, when it was sold  for $59.95 and  $14.95 monthly service. Now they've come up with a more Kindle-like deal with none-other than Amazon for a lifetime "Peek Experience."

When you buy the Peek Pronto for $299.95, you can email and text all you want for a lifetime. The Peek Pronto Mobile Messaging Device with Lifetime Service ships for free at Amazon and includes unlimited email, text, IM service, maps and a Facebook app.

In their news release, they call it the "Peek of a Lifetime". Amazon sold-out  their first shipment. Now more Peek Prontos on the way. As of today, the Peek Pronto Lifetime is ranked 144 in electronics. It doesn't ship muy pronto, it expected to ship in one or two weeks.

autocompletemobilegmail.jpgGoogle mobile has added two improvements that will speed up mobile Gmail for Android phones and iPhones/iPod Touch.

The first improvement is faster address auto-completion. Gmail for mobile will quickly display possible contacts once typing is started. They made it faster by reusing previously fetched matches in subsequent searches.

The second improvement is keyboard shortcuts for Android-powered devices with a physical keyboard. Gmail keyboard shortcuts allows users to quickly move through the inbox. While reading an email you can press 'u' to return to the inbox or 'n' to move to the next conversation.

To try out Gmail for mobile, visit gmail.com in your mobile browser. This version of Gmail for mobile supports iPhone/iPod Touch OS 2.2.1 or above, as well as all Android-powered devices, and is available for US English only.

Google Updates Mobile Web for iPhone & Android Gmail Adds Floaty Bar

They claim it is faster, works better when the network is slow or out, and the added "floaty bar" makes it easier to delete, read, archive email

If the data network drops out, now  Gmail won't drop out.. When the network is down, users can still open recently read messages and to compose messages. The improvements were made with aggressive caching and by leveraging new browser technologies, like HTML5 and Gears.

nokiaunicef.jpgThe Nokia website is inviting you to send a free Season’s Greetings e-card. For each e-greeting that is opened Nokia will donate money to UNICEF  This year cards will help fund education in cyclon struck Myanmar.

You can send up to 30 greetings at a time with email addresses separated with a semi colon.

Nokia is also helping build schools in Iraq.

Nokia is now offering Mail on Ovi, the free email . Mail on Ovi can be set up directly on Nokia phones without requiring a PC to get started.

People who use Nokia Series 40 devices can create their own email address directly on their mobile phones. The Ovi email account gives a person all the features and functionalities of a typical PC-based email account.

Alltel is now offering mobile email for their smartphones and feature phones. The service requires an application to be downloaded directly to the handsets.

Customers can check their personal e-mail from their smartphones on AOL, Hotmail YahooMail and more by simply entering their username and password one-time to establish the connection to their phone.

Alltel Mobile E-mail is also compatible with Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), allowing customers to easily sync their work calendars and contacts without IT support or the need to run any software inside the firewall. Small and medium size businesses can deploy and support Alltel Mobile E-mail using Workgroup Connector, powered by SEVEN, a desktop software solution that allows one computer to centrally manages mobile email access for up to 25 employees and provides access to Microsoft Exchange and other POP/IMAP corporate email servers.

synchronization so users can make real-time updates to their calendar

To set up AOL Sync
1) Go to http://aolsync.aol.com/
2) Click "Register your phone"
3) Enter your mobile number, mobile carrier and device manufacturer and click "Send Code"
4) When the verification code arrives on your mobile phone, enter it and click "Verify"
5) Select your phone model and click "Continue"
6) To sync additional calendars or auto added contacts, check them; Click "Configure Now"
7) For iPhone*, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry devices, the next step is to download a sync client;  For other devices, you'll receive instructions on how to configure your phone's built-in sync client.

It looks like a thin BlackBerry without phone service.

Monthly service is $19.95 a month for unlimited use! Peek service is billed to a credit card so you don’t ever need to worry about bills, late fees or penalties.

Peek is designed to work with a current email address and works with the popular mail providers and all POP3/IMAP servers.

OZ SmartMail Client Available

Email on Non-Smartphones Available from Sprint

Sprint customers can soon get mobile access to their corporate email accounts on select non-PDA Sprint phones such as the new Instinct by Samsung. Easy access to Microsoft Exchange Server and IBM Lotus Notes accounts will be available through Sprint Mobile Email Work, as an extension of Sprint Mobile Email's existing access to personal email accounts from popular web-based providers such as AOL, Gmail, Windows Live and Yahoo! Mail.

Sprint Mobile Email Work will allow users of the Instinct and other non-PDA phones, such as flip phones with more consumer-oriented features, to access both their corporate and personal email in one easy-to-use application, included at no additional charge in several Sprint pricing plans.

In addition to the Instinct by Samsung, Sprint Mobile Email Work will be available in the coming weeks on 11 other popular Sprint phones, including

  • Rumor and Fusic by LG
  • RAZR, RAZR2  KRZR by Motorola;
  • A900, A900M and M500 by Samsung
  • Katana, Katana II and 8400 by Sanyo

Sprint plans to extend the service to additional phones in the future.
