A new Pew study shows that mobile access to the internet is growing. An April 2009 survey by the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project shows that 56% of adult Americans have accessed the internet by wireless means, such as using a laptop, mobile device, game console, or MP3 player. The most prevalent way people get online using a wireless network is with a laptop computer; 39% of adults have done this.

For young adults, close to two-thirds (62%) say it would be very hard to do without a cell phone, more than the half (51%) who say that about the internet and more than twice the
share that feels this way about the plain old landline telephone. While those 65 and older want to keep their landlines.

breakinguphard2docellphone.jpgThe report also finds rising levels of Americans using the internet on a mobile handset. One-third of Americans (32%) have used a cell phone or Smartphone to access the internet for emailing, instant-messaging, or information-seeking. This level of mobile internet is up by one-third since December 2007, when 24% of Americans had ever used the internet on a mobile device. On the typical day, nearly one-fifth (19%) of Americans use the internet on a mobile device, up substantially from the 11% level recorded in December 2007. That's a growth of 73% in the 16 month interval between surveys.

Juke by Samsung Review of Reviews

Samsung Juke SCH-U470 rated 3 out of 5 by Wireless and Mobile News Review of Reviews.

Although the Samsung Juke SCH-U470 (Verizon) has not been reviewed by many grammatically correct sources yet, it has been referred to as “sexy” for design, called the “funnest music phone” Thumbnail image for juke.jpgand a better music player than a phone. One reviewer called the Juke “a Star Trek Communicator with a fashion twist,” due to its GPS capabilites. The Juke has more of an MP3 player look and a very small screen, described as “too small for the Web.”

Problems pointed out in the reviews are that the Juke lacks 3G or V Cast support and it doesn’t have an expandable memory slot.

Which leads us to wonder “Should we rate the Juke as a phone or as a music player?” Surely, the new iPod Shuffle is smaller, cheaper and cuter and the iPod Touch is sexier. Therefore, until we find reviewers who rave about the phone aspects of the Juke, we will have to rate it 3 out of 5 as a phone. If however, you really want a music player and don’t have one yet, and need a new phone the $99 price after rebate with a two year contract may be a good deal for you.

Verizon has four smartphones ready for the the holidays.  Here are their names and lists of features:
