Millennial Media's Scorecard for Mobile Advertising Reach and Targeting (SMART) for June has been released with new figures. The iPhone remained number one handset, while the Samsung Instinct came in at number two which many believe is due to the Sprint Everything plan. BlackBerry Curve came in third.
U.S. Mobile Internet increased to 59.8M users; Millennial Media now reaches 74% of the mobile internet or 44.2M users, according to Nielsen.
Popular Devices:
- 68% increase in iPhone & iPod Touch impressions on Millennial Media's network in June.
- Apple's impression share increased 4.20% in June; however, Samsung remained in the #1 position with the largest impression share throughout Q2.
- The iPhone regained the #1 spot - this also contributed to the 1.4% month over month growth of Touch Screen device share versus other input mechanisms.
- The Blackberry Curve and Blackberry Pearl remained consistently in the #3 and #5 spots respectively month over month - while T-Mobile's HTC G1 (Dream) took the #7 slot in June.

While the top two manufacturers (Samsung and Apple) remained at the #1 and #2 slots, Motorola edged out LG as the #3 device manufacturer on their network. Touchscreen device input increased overall as a segment by 6.5% month-over-month. The top carrier was Sprint, followed by Wi-Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, MetroPCS and Cricket. These figures may have do with Sprint's unlimited plan.
They observed changes over the Memorial Day Weekend:
- Wi-Fi usage over the Memorial Day holiday weekend dropped 10%, showing the "substitution effect"; travelers used Wi-Fi less, while traffic on thenetwork increased 11%
- Advertisers that increased spend in the two weeks prior to and leading into the Holiday Weekend reaped the benefits of mobile internet interactions:
- 12% overall interaction rate lift across key advertiser vertical categories 18% interaction rate lift in the auto vertical 9% interaction rate lift in the travel vertical.
- Mobile reached and engaged vacationers/people on the go over the holiday. During the Memorial Day weekend, vacationers and travelers relied on their mobile devices to stay connected, search for information, and make buying decisions.

The mobile advertising sector is posed to almost
double over the next two years. MAGNA forecasts the US market for mobile advertising will grow by
36%, rising from $169 million in 2008 to $229 million during 2009.
Although these figures represent downward revisions from their forecast in the middle of last year (prior to the subsequent escalation of the ongoing recession), they expect a re-acceleration in 2010 as the emerging mobile applications market organizes to support the sustained growth of ad-supported apps.
As a highly fragmented group of divergent advertising models collectively organized around portable (and primarily cellular network-based) media, a wide variety of trends converge to produce this total.
The Bluetooth SIG adopted Bluetooth 3.0.
The protocol can send large amounts of video, music and photos between
devices wirelessly fast speeds.Bluetooth 3.0 gets its speed from the 802.11 radio protocol. The inclusion of the 802.11 Protocol Adaptation Layer (PAL) provides increased throughput of data transfers at the approximate rate of 24 Mbps. In addition, mobile devices including Bluetooth 3.0 will realize increased power savings due to enhanced power control built in.
Bluetooth 3.0 HS provides developers, manufacturers and consumers with the benefit of backwards compatibility, Once products reach the market, the easiest way for consumers to learn which devices are compatible with other Bluetooth enabled devices is to visit the Bluetooth Gadget Guide.
Recent research by In-Stat found the following:
- Growth of Bluetooth-enabled device shipments will increase by 26% in 2008.
- Silicon manufacturers are continuing to roll out integrated radio chips with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, and FM.
- Sales of mono headsets, another high-volume application for Bluetooth, will continue to grow, particularly as regulations surrounding mobile phone usage while driving continue to be made standard in many states

The
Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has more to celebrate this week
than just the 10th anniversary of its launch. According to an annual
survey conducted by research firm Millward Brown, global awareness of Bluetooth
technology is at an all time high with 85 percent of consumers
recognizing the wireless technology. This is the fifth consecutive year
awareness of Bluetooth technology has climbed, according to the annual survey conducted by research firm Millward Brown.
Consumers in China, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, the US and UK say they have heard of Bluetooth technology and are also overwhelmingly aware of the Bluetooth logo (68 percent) and products that use Bluetooth technology. Products consumers noted included:
• Mobile phones (79 percent)
• Headsets (61 percent)
• Computers (56 percent)
In four out of the six countries polled, at least 60 percent of respondents claim to own a Bluetooth enabled device. Of those consumers who heard a lot about Bluetooth
technology, 78 percent said they are willing to pay more for products
that include the technology and 57 percent of respondents say Bluetooth technology “makes their lives easier.”
CSR gave the first public demonstration of its Ultra Low
Power (ULP) Bluetooth silicon.
CSR gave the successful
demonstration at the Continua Health Alliance medical conference in
Luxembourg. The demonstrations showed that CSR’s
ULP Bluetooth silicon consumes 10 times less power than standard
Bluetooth when connectable. Other participants in the medical conference
included the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) and Nokia.
<
CSR’s ULP Bluetooth demonstrations consisted of two ICs successfully transferring ULP Bluetooth data packets 50-times faster than standard Bluetooth, meaning that the devices were consuming as little as 1/50th of the power. In addition, in establishing the connection, the ULP devices used 1/10th the power required by standard Bluetooth. CSR’s demonstration ICs employed both standard Bluetooth (v.2.1) and ULP Bluetooth radios. CSR calls these devices ‘dual-mode’ because they support both flavours of Bluetooth radio
Zoom Technologies, Inc. announced it has begun shipping new additions to Zoom's

Soon you can phone home by talking to your Bluetooth headset. Forget about pressing buttons, just tell your phone what to do. The software is ready to go, and awaiting chips and manufacturing. This wireless hocus pocus was developed by Sensory Inc. The headset speaks the number of an incoming call and ask if the user wants to accept it. The user can answer yes or no to accept the call.
Headsets using the technology will be able to understand the user in most cases except where there is lot of ambient noise such as inside a car or at Disco night.
