The free Facebook  app for all Palm webOS phones (Palm Pre, Palm Pixi, Palm Pre Plus, Palm Pixi Plus) is now available in the Palm App Catalog with full Facebook features. This is an update to the previously version and has these features:

• You can keep up to date with your Facebook inbox, latest Facebook events, friends' birthdays, and your news feed.
  
• You can now view your friends' Walls, Information, and Photos, and keep tabs on your own Wall.
• Reply to messages in your Facebook inbox or compose new messages, Like and Comment on items in your News Feed, and find friends (old and new) with new Search functionality.
• You can show off your photo albums to friends, as well as view, like, and comment on photos and albums.
  
• You can also quickly upload photos directly from the Facebook application.

Palm Pre, Palm Pre Plus, Palm Pixi and Palm Pixi Plus owners are getting the 1.4 update to webOS. This update, announced earlier this year, adds a lot of feature including video capture/edit/share, dial direct from calendar, better performance and more kinds of notifications.

• Users of Microsoft Exchange server can access contacts through universal search, just like Google, Google Maps, Wikipedia, and Twitter.
• In Calendar, you can see the current time plus a new a.m./p.m. indication in the day view.
• LED and Sound Notifications: The LED in the gesture area now lights up and pulses if you have a notification (even when the screen is off). You can also customize notification sounds in Messaging, Email (on an account-by-account basis), and Calendar. And there are new notification sounds in the ringtones library to give your more customization options for your alert.

Slacker, Inc. announced the Slacker Radio Mobile app for Palm Pre, Palm Pre Plus, Palm Pixi and Palm Pixi Plus smartphones.

Music lovers in the United States and Canada can now listen to their favorite Slacker Radio stations on their Palm webOS smartphone.

We received some gaff from our observation that the Palm Pre on Sprint and the Palm Pre Plus on Verizon are liked more by women.

We don't make those things up.  We we were at the big launch at a Hollywood studio for the original Palm Pre, we noticed the staff were woman that they had heavily tested the Palm Pre for woman's use.  In fact, Palm actually studied focus groups of woman. Also just in our daily lives, we have women friends, and have found women who like the Palm Pre more than men. Let's face we are round and like round things like babies...

Also we noticed that the "boy bloggers" really did not like the Palm Pre as much as female reviewers did.

Verizon and Palm have finally announced that the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus will go on sale January 25.

The Palm Pre Plus has a  touch screen; high-performance processor; and slide-out keyboard. The Pam Pre Plus also comes with the Palm Touchstone Back Cover, making the phone compatible with the  inductive Touchstone Charging Dock (sold separately). Verizon Wireless Pre Plus customers will also get 16 GB of storage (approximately 15 GB user available) for applications and media.

Feature-rich, Pre Plus and Pixi Plus have Wi-Fi.  Through the Palm mobile hotspot software, customers can setup a personal Wi-Fi cloud capable of sharing the to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices such as notebooks, netbooks, cameras, gaming devices or portable media/MP3 players.

Salling Media Sync syncing media from iTunes and compatible photo applications to mobile devices. The new version is compatible with Motorola's Droid and other Android phones including the Droid Eris, T-Mobile G1, HTC myTouch 3G and HTC Hero.

• ShopSavvy, available through Android Market, lets HTC Hero™ with Google™ and Samsung Moment™ with Google™ users track shopping deals. With ShopSavvy the user simply points the camera at a barcode, follows the instructions and receives a comprehensive product and price list.
• ScanLife turns the user's Sprint phone into a 2D barcode scanner. Scanning 2D barcodes that appear on print ads, packaging, movie posters and more automatically takes the user to a specific mobile website, product offer or mobile coupon on their phone. Newer phones with auto-focus cameras also scan regular UPC codes found on most packaging to find price comparisons. ScanLife is preloaded on select Sprint phones such as Samsung Reclaim, and Sprint plans to preload the application on all compatible phones launching in 2010.
• Dealert is a deal tracking application available on Palm Pre and Palm Pixi that allows users to track specific products across major online deal sites. Users can perform searches and choose to be alerted when a deal becomes available for their chosen product.

Sprint announced that has that the 1.3.5 update for the Pre Over-the-Air is coming today.

 This update includes enhancements to the following:
- Improvement in battery life optimization when in marginal coverage areas.
- QCELP capability fix to allow play and audio of video sent via MMS.
- Launch Google Maps or Sprint Nav when tapping an address from contacts.
- Minimized package of MR size through binary difference. Customers can now download over 2G connections if necessary.

The Palm Pre was well reviewed at entered the smartphone market with a fanfare.  It has a lot of capabilities but is not as popular as the iPhone.

Palm has released Project Ares, a new development environment for creating Palm webOS applications.

It  is now available to all Palm developers at ares.palm.com. Palm Pre users can now sync with iTunes and sync well with Microsoft Exchange in the latest Palm Pre OS update webOS 1.2.1.  On Monday, Palm pushed out the webOS 1.2. which added the ability to buy Amazon Music without Wi-Fi, ability to copy/paste and more.

The latest update along with iTunes sync, syncs photo albums better, and cuts down on storage space required for photos while showing photos faster.

Here's a list of the webOS 1.2.1 update fixes:

• The official quote is "Resolves an issue preventing media sync from working with latest version of iTunes (9.0.1)."
• Microsoft Exchange  -Fixes the issue in webOS 1.2.0  with Microsoft Exchange 2007 where some users could no longer synchronize with their Exchange account for Email, Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks.
• Photo Album Sync -Media sync now synchronizes photo albums, maintaining the album structure in the Photos app.
• Media sync now allows for synchronizing photos without needing full-resolution originals for faster display and allows users to store more photos on the phone.
• A security issue encountered by webkit developers is fixed, which doesn't affect end users.

The webOS 1.2.1 update will be pushed Over-The-Air to Sprint customers in the next few days. In this update process, they first try to connect and deliver the update over Wi-Fi, if no Wi-Fi is available for two days, it is sent over the Sprint data network.

Manual Update: If you need the update right away. You can also check for system updates manually at any time by opening Updates. If an update is available, you can download it immediately (or you can wait for it to download in the background at a later time). You are notified when the update is ready to be installed. You can use your phone while an update downloads.

Remember: Be sure that your Palm Pre is at least 30% charged, it can take up to 15 minutes for the process to complete.
