Samsung Glyde (pronounced Glide) SCH-U940 Verizon Rated 3.5 out of 5 by Wireless and Mobile News Review of Reviews
The Samsung Glyde has a touch screen with haptical feeedback on the outside and a sturdy slide-out keyboard on the inside with a ton of features. Reviewers all liked the keyboard but many found the interface and menus difficult to confusing. Web browsing was rated mixed to good. GPS services worked well. The camera was rated decent to downright poor. However, Bluetooth, video, voice activation dialing, voice mail as text, and screen colors were mentioned favorably.
Since there are no mouse-like navigation buttons, navigation through menus and clicking on weblinks was a problem. Data speeds were good to great and email (text only) worked. The inability to sync to PC data and absence of Wi-Fi were seen as shortcomings.
The Samsung Glyde is seen in the best light for heavy text and email users, who need some web browsing, GPS, and music.
Kent German at CNET rated the Samsung Glyde 7.3/10 for great call quality, full features, and keyboard. The touchscreen is too small for full touch operations. The full features s includes Bluetooth, a full HTML browser, GPS
navigation, a 2.0-megapixel camera, and 3G. He calls it the "least successful" at integrating touch. He liked the ability to adjust haptical responses, the slider is well constructed, streaming video and text messages for voicemail. On the downside, the shortcuts on the screen were crowded. the Glyde's keyboard does not offer any navigation controls so you must use the touch screen at all times, email setup is tricky, poor camera quality, and there's no Wi-Fi.
Sascha Segan at PCMag rated the Samsung Glyde 3.5/5 and called it a slender attractive phone. Home screen buttons were quick and easy. Voice quality was good, the phone worked fine with Bluetooh as well as voice activated dialing. The Web browser from Access NetFront is fast, can use Java and is better than the browsers loaded onto Verizon's LG phones. However, clicking on links was difficult. Setting POP3 and IMAP e-mail accounts which can be read in text only was difficult. You can't sync PC data to the phone. The camera was average and he reccommends the phone for basic talking, web surfing and texting, but prefers the LG enV2.
Tom Hasselton at LaptopMag who tends to be less forgiving in his reviews rated the Samsung Glyde 2.5/5, he likes the solid keyboard but calls the UI limited and performance unreliable. He doesn't like that there is no directional pad, but thinks it will work for text-heavy users. The slider is sturdy and the screen at 440 x 240 is big and bright. You can add a microSD card up to 8 mg. There are too many menus and he found the sluggish UI frustrating. He had not trouble setting up IMAP and POP3 email but it is not pushed to the phone, so it has to checked. Music sound was decent, VZ navigation worked well. He found the camera decent. Hep prefers the LG Voyager or LG enV2
