No Mo' Free iPhone 4 Cases After September 30, Says Apple

screen-case-app-20100723.jpgApple has made a case for the end of giving out free iPhone cases to iPhone owners. To get the free case iPhone owners have to download the free case app and then select a case style, but that’s only if you buy an iPhone before September 30.

The free iPhone case webpage informs readers that if you want a free iPhone 4 case and buy your iPhone after September 30, you’ll have to call AppleCare.

“We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller
than we originally thought. A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a
case, and we want to continue providing them a Bumper case for free.

For
everyone else, we are discontinuing the free case program on all iPhone
4s sold after September 30, 2010. We are also returning to our normal
returns policy for all iPhone 4s sold after September 30. Users
experiencing antenna issues should call AppleCare to request a free
Bumper case.”

On July 16, Steve Jobs offered the over 3 million people who bought the latest iPhone 4,
free bumper cases and refunds if they bought an Apple case, He offered full
refunds to anyone who’s not satisfied, and noted that the press was
unfair to the iPhone 4

Consumer Reports did not give the iPhone 4 their seal of approval and also found Apple’s claim that the signal bars were
wrongly calculated was bogus.

Wireless and Mobile News’ “Review of Reviews” of the
iPhone 4 (AT&T)
showed many good features, but also concerns
for the limited data plans as well as signal attenuation.

The
iPhone 4 had problems with
slow uploads.
Apple reported that they were stunned with the
south-paw attenuation/death grip and there was a problem with signal bars
that would be fixed with a
software update.
On almost every cell phone there can be signal
degradation from hands
blocking the antenna. We posted several videos that show

signal attenuation. It was previously reported that electrical tape
did not solve the “death grip” gripe.
