2011 was the first year that the iPad finally had some competition. The top competition came from fire-sale pricing, cool factors and innovation.

Although the iPad 2 was the most popular review for the entire year, the following tablets received honors for trying, pricing and other factors:

We called the HP TouchPad the "tablet that would not die." It's fire-sale pricing was so hot that after HP blew out the 16GB models for $99 and the 32GB models for $149, the tablets showed up on eBay for higher prices. Employees then depleted the TouchPad stock and retailers used the low-priced tablets as promotions to HP computer buyers.

Top Ten Best Hottest Coolest Smartphones Samsung Galaxy S II Nexus

2011 was a stellar year for smartphones at Wireless and Mobile News. The top best coolest hottest list displays speed, power and beauty. Our countdown, started last week showing results by carrier, including for Verizon Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint.

2011 is the first year, in the four years of the Wireless and Mobile News' Top Ten Best Coolest Hottest Smartphones Review of Reviews list that an iPhone does not top the list. It is also the first year that BlackBerry has no entries at all.

In 2008, there was a three-way tie for first place the BlackBerry Storm, T-Mobile G1 (Android) and iPhone 3G. In 2009, the iPhone came in first place, while there was three-way tie for third place between the Droid, Palm Pre and BlackBerry Bold.

Wireless and Mobile News reviewed all the top best hottest coolest smartphones of the year lists and the results are in. We published the results for T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T. Today we look at the results for Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless' top picks were all 4G LTE Android smartphones except for the iPhone 4S. Top maker was Samsung, Motorola and HTC had two winners each while LG and Apple had one winner.

We have got just a few more lists of the best smartphones of the year to review before we announce the final winner. Today, we examine the list of Laptop's top ten best smartphones of the year.

Previously, we analyzed the Digital Trends, PC World, PCMag and CNET top 2011 smartphone lists along with Consumer Reports' top best-rated choices for Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint.

Laptop is one of the most-picky and hardest hitting when reviewing smartphones. Their list has no surprises except for the Samsung Focus Flash Windows Phone. Like other lists, there are no BlackBerry models but include some of the most popular smartphones of the year. Laptop's list includes more recently released models than other lists. Most of the top ten received Editors' Choice (EC) and are packed with features and fast data speeds.
