Review: Palm Pre Plus (Verizon) Review of Reviews

palmpreplus.jpgPalm Pre Plus Rated 4 out of 5 by Wireless and Mobile News’ Review of Reviews

The reviewers of the Palm Pre Plus from Verizon all agree that the webOS, Synergy and web browsing on the Palm Pre Plus are great.  The Synergy feature gathers contact information, calendar and emails from social networking/calendar/email all together with almost psychic-like style. Called the one of the best of Verizon’s smartphones, the Palm Pre Plus is clearly geared towards women, women reviewers rated the phone much higher than men reviewers, because it’s round, cute and so much simpler than those complicated manly square phones.

The keyboard is better than the BlackBerry Tour, but a little on the small side, which women probably won’t mind at all .  The Pam Pre Plus’ screen is slightly smaller than the big boys but still brilliant and gorgeous. The Palm Pre Plus will use Wi-Fi and for an addtional $40 a month work as Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 5 devices, if call call comes in during use as a hotspot, it will cut out the connection.

The Palm Pre Plus camera works well and will have video capture in March. Call quality was found to be good by one reviewer and “mediocre” by another.  As smartphones get more advanced, choices become more subjective, the Palm Pre Plus definitely deserves a spin, because it can be held and operated in one hand where if fits nicely. It also works with the conductive touchstone charger that doesn’t require it to plugged in for charging. There’s a reason why the first Palm Pre commercials had a lovely female on a mountain with zen-like serenity on her face, Palm Pre Plus has a calming effect when it does all the information gathering for you, including universal search.

National offer 468x60

The Palm Pre Plus sells for $149.99 after a rebate with a voice and data plan contract. preplus_touchscreen_slideout.gifSascha Segan at PC Mag rated the Palm Pre Plus 3.5 out 5. He calls it kinder and and gentler than the Droid and a friendly egg that exists to help you chat and figure things out. The Palm Pre Plus is similar to the Sprint Palm Pre but has 16 GB, Wi-Fi , ability to create a Wi-Fi hotspot and a button has been replaced by a touch area. The sound quality of the earpiece is muddy. Bluetooth headset worked well, but the phone lacked voice dialing. The Wi-Fi hotspot is cool and  worked at about 2 megabits a second.  Calls pause the hotspot functionality The operating system is cute and tactile with improved performance, merging calendars, contact, email and IM all into one. Photos were sharp and video recording is coming in March. The browser is excellent. Although the Pre doesn't kill the Droid it is cuddlier alternative.

Bonnie Cha at CNET rated thePalm Pre Plus 4 out of 5. She like the extra storage and Ram; inductive charging and the improved QWERTY keyboard for balancing personal and business lives.. She didin't like the speaker phone, camera editing option, or that's feels hot. If Android or  Windows Mobile seems too complicated for you, this may be the smartphone for you. The screen is gorgeous and the gesture area works is smooth. The keys have more space and tactile feedback. The Wi-Fi hotspot worked like a charm.  Call quality was good.

Mark Spoonuaer at LaptopMag rated the Palm Pre Plus 3.5 out of 5 and calls it the "anti-Droid" and one of the best smartphones available from Verizon. It compact, light and streamlined. The screen is bright and crisp and supports multi-touch gestures. He prefers the Palm Pre Plus' keyboard to the BlackBerry Tour's keyboard, but would like to see an onscreen keyboard. Multi-tasking is deft and lets you see the name of email senders. Palm Synergy makes gathering calendar, contact and email information easy. Universal search is impressive. Web surfing is top notch. You can play 3D games, and photos are sharp. Call quality was mixed and battery life was mediocre.

Lisa Gade at MobileTechReview rated the Palm Pre Plus 4.5 out 5. She thinks it's worth the extra $50 to get the Palm Pre Plus over the Palm Pixi Plus for the better QWERTY keyboard and ability to play 3D games. She loved the Palm Synergy via cloud sync and the webOS is modern and attractive. The screen is bright and colorful.
