Virgin Mobile now allows you send to text messages out into to space to your BFFs in the galaxy. Virgin says: "Once sent you can ensure your message will live on eternally, a concept that will surely touch the recipients heart" - or make them slightly nauseous, depending on the amount of schmaltzy sentiment they can bear."

Virgin Mobile  links to SentForever.com, where you fill in form for your space message. SentForever transmits the  message into deep space using a high powered radio transmitter from BT's Goonhilly earth station in Cornwall. Once sent, the special message will continue to travel for the rest of eternity. Their website says "It's truly a message that has been sent forever."

It's also a wonderful way for Virgin to harvest email addresses, phone numbers and other information because there's a box on the form that states.

"The sponsor of this free message would like to send you other offers. Click this box if you don't want to receive them."
