BlackBerry Tour Updates 2Day: Reliance Offers OS 4.7.1.53

Last Friday, some BlackBerry Tour owners were able to download the BlackBerry Tour update OS 4.7.1.53 via the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.  It mysteriously disappeared over the weekend. We offered instructions on how to complete the upgrade.

It has been reported that Reliance, a provider of BlackBerry smartphones in India is offering the BlackBerry Tour update OS 4.7.1.53 , via the RIM website. The update page says it is for "East Asia."

No one knows the real reason why the RIM update was pulled.  From previous experience with the BlackBerry Storm updates, we learned that Verizon is slow releasing updates because of their vigorous testing process. Although it frustrates users, it does ensure quality.

Although BlackBerry bloggers and addicts often install un-official updates, it is not recommended because you are on your own. In other words, if  you contact either RIM or Verizon for support, you not be helped.  Sometimes the BlackBerry gets "bricked" which means it turns into brick and will not function. No matter what you do, you should back-up your data first.

The fixes provided in the update are not major but will be appreciated if you use Bluetooth. Here are some of the reported fixes include better battery life, perfornance, Bluethooth voice quality, Tracball responsiveness, MMS notifications,  Visual Voicemail and video player.

Other Fixes:

  • The geo-tagging error in the camera application is fixed.
  • Error with DRM music skipping fixed.
  • You can now check for new BBM updates automatically or manually.
  • The BlackBerry Tour no longer restarts after activating the morning alarm.
  • Memory cleaning is better and its less sluggish.
  • The first character is no longer duplicated when dialing from the home screen.
  • Glitch where the BlackBerry Tour may not have detected headset removal, causing it to remain connected to a disabled headset.
  • When prompted to add an email account in the Setup Wizard, user’s BlackBerry Tour may have jumped to “Bluetooth® Setup,” leaving them unable to navigate back to email setup.
  • Users who tried to save changes to a contact that only contained a company name, could have received the error message “Contactupdated externally. Changes will be lost and the view and the view closed.”
