Owners of the Windows Mobile 6.x phones will not be able to upgrade to
Windows Phone 7. Microsoft will continue to support Windows Mobile 6.x and call it
Windows Phone Classic.The new specs for
Windows Phone 7 requires 3 buttons(Home Back and Bing Search) Windows Mobile 6.x smartphones may have different buttons.
"Because we have very specific requirements for Windows Phone 7 Series
the current phones we have right now will not be upgradable", Natasha
Kwan, General Manager for Microsoft's Mobile Communications Business in
the Asia-Pacific region, told APCMagazine.
Microsoft will not rebrand Windows Mobile 6.x as
Windows Phone Classic and offer it for budget-minded smartphone buyers
as well as business customers with 6.x-based apps.
