Twitter Hops Clouds Buy SMS Cloudhopper

Cloudhopper.jpgTwitter announced that it has acquired Cloudhopper, a messaging infrastructure company
that
enables Twitter to connect directly to mobile carrier networks in
countries all over the planet

Twitter started working with Cloudhopper to become one of the highest volume SMS
programs in the world eight months agao. Twitter processes close to a billion SMS tweets
per month and that number is growing around the world from Indonesia to
Australia, the UK, the US, and beyond.

Cloudhopper, Inc. was founded by Joe Lauer in late 2008 to provide
mobile messaging technology and expertise to businesses in the wireless
space. Previously, Joe Lauer was the Founder and Vice President of
Simplewire, Inc., one of the first SMS aggregators in North America.
Simplewire was acquired by Qpass, Inc. in 2006 and is now known as
OpenMarket, a division of Amdocs (NYSE: DOX). At OpenMarket and Amdocs,

Mr. Lauer served as a Director in various roles during which OpenMarket
grew to become the largest and most reliable SMS aggregator in North
America. In 2010, OpenMarket's platform is projected to process billions
of messages and over $600M in mobile transactions (ringtones, games,
etc.). Mr. Lauer is the inventor of numerous patents and holds a B.S.E
with honors in Computer Science Engineering from the University of
Michigan Engineering School, Ann Arbor.
