Many  iPhone owners have had major regrets after dropping their iPhones and discovering how much it costs to replace the broken glass.  The problem is so prevalent that many iPhone owners are replacing the glass themselves following online and video tutorials.  Samsung Galaxy S owners can rest easy because their glass in their Android touchscreen smartphone is Gorilla Glass.

Corning said that their Gorilla glasshas been designed into the Samsung Electronics Galaxy S, a newly released Android smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S features a four-inch super AMOLED display, that weighs roughly 119 grams in a slim, highly durable design. The enhanced super AMOLED display is enabled in part by using Corning Gorilla glass as the protective cover. Gorilla glass is an environmentally friendly alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass that is both scratch resistant and durable.

The Corning  website says, "Gorilla glass is better able to survive the real-world events that most commonly cause glass failure. Gorilla glass provides damage resistance and improves the lifespan of portable display devices."

More than 20 major makers of PC and handheld devices have already recognized the benefits of Gorilla glass by designing it into more than 225 devices, and more than 55 models will be released over the next six months.

We assume that Gorilla glass is used in the Samsung Captivate and Samsung Epic 4G. We have a call out to Corning to check the facts.
