Motorola Atrix Update News: Atrix Gets Update to 4G HSPA+ Over Wi-Fi Only

Atrix Update.jpgAfter the releases of the Motorola Atrix and HTC Inspire, it came to light that both of the smartphones could not access AT&T's "4G" HSPA+ network.  The good news for owners is that there are now updates available.

This Motorola Atrix update process requires that you be connected to a Wi-Fi network or AT&T mobile hotspot to install two updates - Firmware 4.1.57, and 4.1.83 (Android 2.2.2).

Features of the first update include bug fixes and improvements to Bluetooth compatibility, fingerprint reader performance, battery life, car dock performance, and turning off the display off while charging.

The Android 2.2.2 update allows for 2G/Edge mobile hotspots, increased data speed and Yahoo! email over Wi-Fi.You'll receive an "Update available" message, or you can manually check for updates by accessing Settings and then tapping About phone>System updates, and Download.

IIf not connected via Wi-Fi, you will not be able to start the download.

You will not be able to make or receive phone calls during the update.  As with all Android updates, we strongly suggest that you back up your data first.  Make sure that your battery is at least 40% charged.
