Nexus 4, 7 & 10 Update Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2

Nexus 4The new Android 4.2.2 update for Nexus 4, 7, 10 fixes bugs and removes some secrets.

There are reports that the change to the Nexus 4 baseband software seems to have completely disabled its partial, undocumented LTE support for the Nexus 4.  The Nexus 4 has an LTE chip on it but does not officially work in the United States.

Google has been running new ads and deals for its Nexus devices, however they are slow to ship. There have been many Nexus 4 SNAFUs in customer service and stock issues. See Nexus 4 tips.

Features of the Android 4.2.2 update include:

  • Ends random rebooting.
  • New sounds alerts for wireless charging and battery alert.  When the Nexus 4 is placed on Qi charger there is sound alert.
  • Longer vibration for device notifications.
  • Faster loading gallery app.
  • App notifications shows progress bar of the percentage of  download progress.
  • Fixes Bluetooth audio stuttering bug.

If you haven't received the update, Over-the-Air, you download it from Google Developers if you have an unlocked bootloader. This is not an easy method and we don't recommend it for those who are not technical or don't have the patience to if something goes wrong.

It is always a good idea to back up your data before updating your Nexus 4, 7 or 10.  Be sure that it is at least 50% charged. Updates over Wi-Fi are generally faster.

To check, go to Settings > System > About phone > System updates.  Follow prompts to download and install the update.
