BlackBerry News: BlackBerrry Torch Sale - No Price Cut - Deal or No Deal?

BlackBerryTorch99.JPG

After the new BlackBerry Torch slider from AT&T went on sale, non-wireless news sources reported the online retailer price of $99.99 was a price cut, when it was just one of the many online deals our readers have come to love. While bloggers with nothing better to do are scouring the web looking for deals and discounts for smartphones,

RIM said that the $99 or C-note price of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 was not a price cut because AT&T is still selling it for $199. They claim it is a standard industry practice. Amazon's Blackberry Torch deal being called a "price cut" was termed "inaccurate and misleading," it was also in affect the day the BlackBerry Torch 9800 went on sale.

The reviews of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 have been mixed ranging from wow from BlackBerry addicts to 'too-late-now" by reviewers who compare the BlackBerry Torch to high resolution glamorous Android and iPhone competitors.

Typically phones when they are released from carriers don't have an immediate discount at online retailers such as Amazon Wireless Beta, Wirefly or Let's Talk.  Sometimes online retailers may throw in a free memory card, headset or 5%
off.  Often we have been told that we can not reveal the price at all,
especially with Wirefly and Verizon Droid launches requiring us to use
the "too-low to show" word.

This is the first time we've seen such a big price cut
deal on the opening day of sale. Some may call it a promotion. Analysts
are calling the BlackBerry Torch launch  good to so-so and underwhelming. It
usually takes about six months and the $200 smarpthone becomes free with
contract when newer smartphone models debut and takes two or three months for
a 50% discount except now-a-days as the smartphone competition heats
up.

On slow news days, like this week, bloggers cruise the online
retailers to make news. Yesterday, T-Mobile had a sale on the Samsung
Vibrant  for $99. Today, another blogger made  Amazon Wireless price of 1 cent for the Samsung Vibrant
with a new contract news, when it probably was a penny, yesterday too.
The price of Samsung Vibrant for renewing contracts is $149 at Amazon
Wireless with this coupon-link.

The one thing we know for sure is that you will never get a top smartphone for free or a penny without signing up for contract.  Unlocked new smartphones run in the hundreds of dollars used and new.
