Droid 2 Dead, RIP, MIA Hasta La Vista - Droid 2 Global Lives!

Droid2_Motorola.jpgAfter reviewing the family history of the Droid dynasty of smartphones, we searched high and low to find a Droid 2 online, and it had disappeared.  That's the short life of a much beloved smartphone for you, Droid 2, R.I.P.

You can still get an R2D2 Droid 2 with its special RD-D2 features and case, but the Droid 2 is gone and not to be found.

The Verizon website no longer shows any plain-wrapped Droid 2 model except for a refurbished Droid 2 for $49.99.  We've got a call out to Verizon to find out what happened.  We suspect that there were so many great Droid 2 deals over the holidays that it sold-out and then was phased-out.

We had a feeling that when the Droid 2 Global was launched with a 1.2GHz processor with Android 2.2 and global capabilities, it would take over the Droid 2 reign.  There is good news.  We learned today that the Droid line will live on in the Droid 3, Droid X2 and Droid Incredible 2.
The Droid 2 Global features a 3.7-inch
touchscreen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 8GB of internal memory, and
an 8GB preinstalled microSD card.  It has Quad Band GSM capabilities in
over 200 countries.  The Droid 2 Global
comes in black or white.  Features include stereo Bluetooth, mobile
hotspots, visual voice mail, Skype Mobile, DLNA connectivity,
BlockBuster mobile, V CAST, Wi-Fi, GPS, and enhanced security.

Amazon Wireless has discounted the Droid 2 Global to a very low price.
