The process of leaking operating systems is becoming common-place and Motorola is taking a stance about a practice that can "brick" phones and cause all kinds of problems for tech support. A leaked version of
Android OS 2.2 Froyo for the
Droid X update has been blocked.
Engadget reported that Motorola is sending cease and desist emails to websites serving up an non-authorized Andorid 2.2 update for the well-reviewed
Droid X.Motorola's director of information security is asking sites like
MyDroidWorld to remove the files ASAP.
Open-source loving-bloggers are saying its because Motorola doesn't want secrets revealed. The expected roll-out of the
Droid X update to Froyo 2.2 is late
summer/early September. Motorola has other Android
updates planned.
FroYo Android 2.2 is
faster than previous versions of Android
(faster than iPad too) and has close to twenty
improvements that include
supporting Adobe Flash 10.1, MS offers multiple e-mail account
support, camera improvements, a better
browser, a re-designed calendar, Bluetooth voice dialing and ability to
listen to music and view visual voicemail at the same time. A major
improvement is the
ability to store apps on the microSD card, allowing for more space for
apps.
There is a planned streaming
music service too.
