Update 02/18/11: Sprint will release an update to Android 2.2 Froyo for the Samsung Epic 4G on 2/22.

T-Mobile marketing director Cole Brodman told PC Magazine's Sascha Segan that the Samsung
Galaxy S Vibrant will get an update to Android 2.2 Froyo, beginning tomorrow.

The upgrade to Android 2.2 Froyo will be pushed out over the next few weeks to Samsung Vibrant owners.  The delay was due to Holiday pressures and integration kinks with T-Mobile-only features.
"It was a quality control and timing issue,"  Brodman told Segan.  "The biggest challenge is integration and customization."

Smartphone users expecting
frequent upgrades is "new to us," Brodman said.  "And we're going to have
to step up and change the way we do things."

T-Mobile plans to update all of its Android phones to new versions of Google's Android 2.3 within 3-5 months.  The Samsung Mesmerize from U.S. Cellular will be getting an update in March.

Not all Samsung Galaxy S phones have received updates.  Verizon, Sprint and AT&T haven't announced a date yet.

The update won't fix the hardware problem on Samsung Captivate phones made before 11/06/10 that mysteriously powers-off when in standby mode.

On Friday, we learned that the Android 2.2 Froyo update was still being tested.  In the meantime, one of the readers wrote that the carriers already have the update, specifically, Sprint.  Maybe Sprint will be the next carrier to sprint to the Android 2.2 Froyo in the Samsung Galaxy S.

There have been many promises made by Samsung and the carriers in the past, such as the promised update in the "near future" which was changed to "ASAP."

Samsung Galaxy S smartphones in the U.S. include the Samsung Epic 4G, Samsung Fascinate, Samsung Captivate, Samsung Continuum and Samsung Vibrant.

The Samsung Galaxy S update to Android 2.2 includes many well-liked features,
including an Adobe Flash compatibility, speed improvements, better
keyboard, Samsung Media Hub, better Microsoft Exchange support, and
the storing of apps on the microSD card (see list of update features).

Many of the Samsung Galaxy S phones were named in Wireless and Mobile News' Review of Reviews Top Ten Best Android an' Droid Phones Now an' Later, as well as the Top Ten Best Smartphones.
