BlackBerry Storm Upgrade Available from BlackBerry

It's 26.4 megabytes and the BlackBerry Storm update is downloadable now. The BlackBerry Storm update page has it. It's a bit tricky if you want the latest not-yet official version.

This update works while the BlackBerryStorm is attached to your computer via a USB port, while running Internet Explorer 6 or higher. The website warns, "Until the update is complete, you will not be able to use your BlackBerry Storm. Should you unplug or cancel the update process before completion, your smartphone may be unusable and you may need to restart the update process to regain use of your device."

A RIM public relations spokesperson emailed us this statement, "The code available on the website is 4.7.0.65. For further information about updates, please touch base with Verizon, as carriers are the ones who make BlackBerry software updates available to their customers."

Which is incorrect, while perusing the BlackBerry support forum we found at that in the BlackBerry Storm Manager program you can select 4.7.0.75. You know, the one that CrackBerry leaked it its forums. This "issue" is so confusing we posted another whole article on to clarify how the BlackBerry Storm update works.

If you click the wrong version, you can install OS 4.7.0.65 that came with the Storm and loose all your data. It is very confusing and a pain in the lower touchscreen.

One forum member called Verizon and was told there will be not update until December 8.

BlackBerry Storm owners received this information in a email message yesterday:

Bundle An upgrade of BlackBerry Device Software version 4.7 is available. This upgrade includes optimizations and enhancements approved by your wireless service provider.
Note: If your device is associated with an email account that uses a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, contact your administrator for more information about upgrading. is available for your device. Goto BlackBerry - Update your Device Software to upgrade.

Please note that if are running a BlackBerry Storm with BlackBerry Enterprise Service or BlackBerry Professional Software you will not be able to complete the upgrade from the website. You should check with your IT department to see if they have the BES upgrade.
