Palm Pre News: Party, Limited Supply, Unlimited Plans & Projections
After yesterday's announcement that the Palm Pre will go on sale June 6, there are all kinds of news revolving around the launch. There's a pre-Pre release party, supply may be limited, and plans are being compared to the iPhone.
Sprint Premier Customers were invited to
a pre Palm-Pre release party on Friday, June 5.
As a Sprint Premier customer, you are exclusively invited to the hottest wireless launch party. Mingle with celebs and enjoy hors d'oeuvres, wine, and music while taking the Palm Prefor a spin on America's most dependable 3G network. Plus, you will be able to purchase the Pre at the event before it hits the street
Sprint stores will close early on Friday (4 pm) and open early on Saturday (6 am) to get ready for the launch.
Dan Hesse at and Investors Conference said,
"We don't intend to advertise it heavily early on because we think we are going to have shortages for a while. We won't be able to keep up with demand for the device in the early period of time."
Previously it was reported that there was a limited supply of Palm Pre 375,000 units to start. This estimate has lead bloggers to tell readers to "get your sleeping bags ready."
If you buy the Palm Pre, you must have and an Everything data plab that includes unlimited data and texting along with voice minutes with prices at for 450 minutes ($69.99), 900 minutes ($89.99) or unlimited minutes ($99.99). Families can choose from 1500 minutes ($129.99), 3000 minutes ($169.99) or unlimited plans ($189.99).
Currently that is cheaper than the plans required by AT&T for the iPhone, which requires $30 a month for an unlimited data with an optional $20 a month for unlimited texting over and above minutes, which range from $39.99 a month for 450 minutes up to $99.99 for unlimited. The texting limitation is usually not a problem for iPhone users because email is the primary form of communication.Mmmmmmn that may be why AT&T is rumored to be cutting the cost of iPhone plans by $10 a month.
Bests Buy will be selling Palm Pre smartphones at $200 with an instant rebate, not a mail-in one. The Palm Pre costs $549 without a contract.
Barclay's Central Bank predicts Palm Pre sales will reach $2 Billion by the end of the year.
